Privacy policy

What’s this all about?

This page is intended to let you know what personal information I collect about you, why I collect it, what I will do with it, and how you can choose how I use it.

Privacy is very important to me, and so I take your privacy seriously too. If it were up to me, I wouldn’t have any of your information at all. But sometimes I need to use your information, and this sets out exactly what information I’ll ask you for and how I’ll use it.

If you ever feel uncomfortable with the way I’m using your information, please tell me. I never want you to feel uncomfortable.

Affiliate links

If I’m writing about a particular item or product (such as a book), I’ll often post a link that will enable you to buy that product from Amazon or another vendor. If you look closely at the link, you’ll notice that there’s some extra text in there; if you go on to buy that product, that text lets the vendor know that you came from my website.

As part of this process, I am not made aware of any personal information about you. I am not made aware of who you are, where you are, what you bought, how you bought it, or anything that could identify you. Using any of my affiliate links will not result in me acquiring any personal information about you.

Cookies

This website uses Google Analytics cookies to help me understand how the site is used and what I could do to improve it. These cookies do not collect any personal information about you, and I cannot use these cookies to identify you. You will be given the option to opt-in to the use of these cookies when you visit my site. If you object to the use of these cookies, you can close the page and exit the website.

Emails sent to members of my mailing list also contain cookies. These cookies identify whether you have opened an email and/or clicked a link within the email. These cookies record your email address, IP address, date and time you opened an email and/or clicked a link. They help me see whether an email has performed well or if I need to make some changes in the emails I send you. Wix.com sets these cookies, so I can’t control them. That means, if you object to the use of these cookies, you must unsubscribe from my newsletter; the link is at the bottom of every email I have sent you.

Comments on this site

When leaving a comment on this website, you will be asked for

  • your name, which will be used to identify you within the discussion

  • your email address, which helps prevent spam as well as allowing you to use services like Gravatar to show a photo next to the comment

  • your website URL, which is optional.

This information will be used by the spam filter of my service provider Wix.com to help prevent my site from being flooded by spam. It will also be stored on my site’s database in order to keep your comment on display. I will never share the information you provide when posting a comment, nor will I use it to contact you. You have the right to request that I remove this information from my database and delete the comment; if you would like to make such a request, please contact me.

Mailing list

When you sign up to my mailing list, I ask you for:

  • your name, so I know what to call you

  • your email address, so I know where to send the email.

When you sign up, you will be asked to provide your consent to receive email. Your information will be stored by Wix.com in accordance with their privacy policy.

Email communications

If you agree to receive email communications, your name and email address will be used to send you my email newsletter. I tend to email my fans when I release a new book, when I’m running a deal on a book I’ve already published, or if I’m involved in an ebook promotion I think they’d like. You can unsubscribe from my newsletter at any time by updating your profile or contacting me.book

Data sharing

I do not share your information with any third parties other than those already mentioned.

When you sign up to my mailing list, you do so using a form hosted by Wix.com. This means that Wix.com holds the information on my behalf. If you object to this, you must unsubscribe from my mailing list and let me know that you also want me to delete the data held by Wix.com.

Data retention

If you have posted a comment on this website, I will retain the information you provided in order to maintain that comment’s presence on the site.

If you have subscribed to my email mailing list, I will retain the information you provided as long as you are subscribed. Once you have unsubscribed, your information will be retained in order to help me understand the performance of my emails, but it will be deleted within one year of the date you unsubscribed.

You have the right to erasure (also known as the right to be forgotten), which means you can ask me to erase your data at any time and I must do so within a month. If you wish to exercise this right, please contact me.

The principles behind using your information

  • I will only use your information with your explicit consent.

  • You can provide or withdraw your consent at any time.

  • Your privacy is important to me, and it will always be the most important consideration when I use your information.

  • The only times I will use your information without your consent is if I have a legal or contractual obligation to do so.

Once again, if you have any questions, or if you ever feel uncomfortable with the way I’m using your information, please tell me.
